Micro weddings don't equal micro wedding cakes
You’ve read the latest government guidelines on weddings, and you’ve decided to go for it, and have an intimate wedding with up to 15 (at the moment!) of your nearest and dearest. Congratulations! Firstly for still wanting to marry each other after a pretty intense lock down period, and secondly for making the decision to get married in a different way than you may have originally envisaged. Small, intimate weddings are so much fun and often way more personal that big lavish dos.
A smaller wedding doesn’t mean you have to go small with your wedding cake. There are TONNES of options available to you to fit with the ‘up to 15 people’ people rule.
Still want that stacked, tall wedding cake look? Go for it! Most of the tiers can in fact be dummy cakes, i.e. fake cakes, which means you can still get the look what you want, but without a heck of a lot of cake left over. Plus, dummy cakes can be slightly cheaper, depending on how you want your cake to look.
Tall, one tier cakes are a fantastic option for scaled down celebrations. There are so many different designs out there can make the cake look really spectacular. Perhaps a terrazzo style cake, or maybe a rough edged cake with loads of edible flowers?! Tall, one tiered cakes are so versatile and really popular for those who prefer savoury over sweet, but still want a whiff of cake on their wedding day. One of my clients asked if a smash cake was acceptable for their wedding, which I thought was HILARIOUS and would make for fantastic photos!
You may also want to consider the cupcake option, which is great for those of us who have family members with tonnes of dietary requirements (my family is definitely one of those!). Cupcakes look so gorgeous lined up on a table or stacked up on a stand - they’re perfect for a garden party, afternoon tea type celebration with family. Personally, I would get them individually boxed so you can send your family off with a party bag containing a little cupcake. Party favour made of cake. Yes please!
If you’re feeling generous, you could send cake to those guests who cant be with you on your wedding day. Such a lovely gesture, includes everyone and who doesn’t want to receive cake through the door?!
Whatever you decide to do for your micro wedding, it should be about YOU guys and a celebration of your love. Lord knows we need little wins this year!
