How do I make my wedding cake unique?
We all want something a bit different but more importantly, you want something really personal to you as a couple. Wedding cakes can sometimes be in danger of being a bit ‘boring’ and samey. There are so many ways to make your wedding cake really stand out and create something that really reflects your tastes and style. I can't wait to share my wedding cake with you guys - it’s definitely very unique to us!
Here are a few ideas:
Adding flowers
Adding floral arrangements to your wedding cake will really make your cake pop, and because every floral arrangement is unique to every couple, you will by default have something noone else will have. You can have a cascade coming down the entire cake, you could have a floral ‘fault line’ style cake, or even a cake covered in edible petals. Absolutely stunning.
Adding colour
You can still have a mainly white cake, but perhaps you want a pink Jackson Pollock esque splash on the front of the cake? Perhaps pick a colour from your colour scheme and have that as your main cake colour, or how about a watercolour effect cake that is different shades of your colour scheme? How about adding gold leaf? Or even, dare I say it having black in your wedding cake? The possibilities are endless. Team colours like gold with complementary floral arrangements, for an even more special look.
Adding textures
Stencils allow cake makers to add amazing texture to cakes with ease. If you wanted a 3 tier wedding cake, you could have different texture on each tier, or even different colours and textures on each tier. Layer textured stencils for an even more abstract look, or have a very elegant clean geometric style cake with a subtle texture. Wafer paper adds incredible texture and is largely tasteless, but wow it looks incredible.
Adding other baked goods
Who says less is more? More is more!! You could use macarons, mini cupcakes or your favourite sweets/chocolates to decorate your cake. If you wanted something really spectacular, you could combine a 2 layer cake with a cupcake tower underneath.
Unusual flavour combinations
Vanilla and chocolate are great, and definitely crowd pleasers, but consider something more unusual that will make people ooh and ahh. Blueberry and coconut, or raspberry and white chocolate are great examples of cakes i’ve had at my friend’s weddings that have really stood out for me. Think of flavours that remind you of somewhere really special that you share with your partner. For example, if you got engaged on a beach in Barbados, add a rum flavour in there. Your cake maker will be able to recommend some great combinations to you.
